Manufacturing Data Management / MDM – Smart Factory Glossary

Manufacturing Data Management, or MDM for short, is the general term used for collecting, saving, evaluating, and managing all information generated during the production process. This data includes technical specifications, production plans, machine data, and data from quality inspections in production.

Manufacturing Data Management can be integrated into a Manufacturing Execution System (MES), which stores documents in digital form in a central place where operators can access the data at any time. A digital Manufacturing Data Management supports work organization in manufacturing companies, saves time, and helps optimize production processes thus increasing efficiency and productivity. MDM plays a pivotal role in the Smart Factory where machines are networked with each other and a great amount of data is generated.
