Manufacturing App / mApp – Smart Factory Glossary

Manufacturing apps, or mApps for short, are IT applications that can be implemented into the existing manufacturing IT thanks to an integration platform such as MPDV's Manufacturing Integration Platform (MIP). Every application that communicates with the MIP is an mApp, from the smartphone app to the machine control system to the ERP system. Each manufacturing app provides a precisely defined range of functions, for example functions to plan resources, map the value-added process or optimize material flow.

While the Manufacturing Integration Platform provides the basis, manufacturing apps from various providers with different functions can be operated and flexibly combined with each other. Users can choose from the numerous mApps on the MIP marketplace and select the ones they need for their manufacturing processes thereby creating an individual IT landscape from standard software.
